B33 Inis Cealtra: A Powerful Workboat for the Shannon System

The B33 Inis Cealtra is a custom-designed inland workboat built specifically for Waterways Ireland. This 22-meter steel vessel is a product of close collaboration between Waterways Ireland, Mooney Boats (builders), and Marine Design International (designers). Designed for Versatility and Efficiency

The Inis Cealtra boasts an impressive array of features that enhance its functionality. The vessel measures 22 meters in length, with a beam of 5.6 meters and a draft of just 0.98 meters, allowing it to navigate the Shannon system with minimal restrictions. The deck offers a spacious working area with a cargo capacity of 2.2 tonnes per square meter. A strategically positioned M230.20 Guerra Marine Crane with a 20.9 Tm capacity is recessed into the deck to maintain air draft while providing vital lifting capabilities.

Power and Maneuverability

Twin Caterpillar C3056TA marine engines, each generating 185 horsepower, propel the Inis Cealtra. Conventional shafts and propellers enable a cruising speed of 7 knots and a bollard pull of 3.5 tonnes. For precise maneuvering in fast currents, a Sidepower SP300 hydraulic bow thruster with 270kg of thrust is incorporated. The vessel is also equipped with a 3-tonne capacity towing winch and two 8-meter spud legs for anchoring during operations.
